Have You Missed the Blog? I Have Missed Writing!

Time flies by! Last blog was September, this is now after middle of November. Not only is my gardening finished for the year but there has been lots been going on!

The other day, I walked out to the mailbox. Our weather has been up and down, 30's at night warmer in the daytime. This day it was 65°F with the sun shining.  I looked down and there was a small little sunshine in the grass.

Then today, I was letting the dogs out and, yes, there were several squirrels that went running off away from my dogs. One went up the Pin Oak and sat there while Rosebud looked up and barked at it. The squirrel then ran down the branch to the spindly end, leaped to the Blackhaw tree, ran down a branch went over to the flower crab, got on the fence traveled the fence, went down the fence to the side yard, sat for a minute, then took off to the backyard and over the the far Locust tree on the right side of our property. I am standing on the deck and telling the dogs, "there he goes" and pointing. They are looking at me and not seeing a thing. LOL!

Sometime this year, I broke off a piece of my Dianthus. I was just reading about propagation and decided to see if I could do it with this plant.  I took a small jar, filled with water put a small sandwich baggy over it, poked a hole and put the plant in.  After a few weeks, I checked, and I had roots.  After waiting just a little longer, I planted it out in my 1/2 Whiskey Barrel. At first, I thought it was a goner as a critter pulled it up or dug around it. I got it tucked back in and kept an eye on it. Had another plant from Autumn Joy Sedum I was propagating at the same time. The Autumn Joy actually had some blooms on it even though it was only about 6 inches high.  The Dianthus looked healthy and so I thought it would make it through the winter.  I mulched a bunch of leaves around it and had some packing stuff from a box I put around the two plants.   
Today, while outside watching the dogs aggravate the squirrels, I looked down and couldn't believe my eyes.  There was the tiniest bud of a Dianthus flower.  I had my camera and took the picture. I am thrilled. Now, the question will be, will it make it through the winter. I sure hope so!

I'm Worn Out!

It’s Nice Outside By Mary J Williams © I thought about the birds Stepped outside the door The sun was shining brightly Which I just adore! I knew I had washing So went down the stairs Transferred wash to the dryer I know you don’t care! Winter-Yard Gardens Birds Critters and ME

Winter-the Yard, Birds and Critters and Me by Mary J Williams It's sort of winter but the weather is mild You can be outside Which makes me smile Weeds were pulled and I planted a seed one was a tree If it grows, it will surprise me I have had fun watching the birds an argument between bluebirds and the Robins I've heard Chickadees flying in and the Titmouse too I grab the camera Then off they flew I have a flowerbox sits on the rail It's on the two by six so falling will fail It also can sit on a two by four but mine just has the space The birds walk through the tunnel and disappear without a trace One time, while filling the feeders One of the tunnels had a bird A sparrow was in there  He ran so fast, he was blurred I love watching them  they think the tunnels fun Maybe they get cool If there's a lot of sun. I have to wash the deck  to try and keep it clean with bird seed and poop Dog pee I mean When it's cold outside Or very early morn The dogs do their business
