Listen and Smell

Listen and Smell By Mary J Williams© You can tell it is Spring From all the sounds around you Birds are singing their songs And the smells are beautiful too! I have a bird app on my phone I listened to the birds sing Pointing the phone at the sound So, the app could do its thing The Red-bellied Woodpecker Was right near by Had a nest in the tree Every once in a while, he would fly There was the Bluebird They had a nest in my yard The app picked that sound up It really wasn’t hard The Northern Mocking bird His song is tricky, it sounds like many Hence the name mocking And he does plenty Many of the bird songs I already knew quite a few Which make me very proud How would you do? I love standing on the deck In the first morning light And listen to the sounds Much to my delight The smells of spring are wonderful My currant and the lilac Other flowers around I can’t wait ‘til Spring comes back Spring makes me feel good My favorite time of year It signifies rebirth to me Which gives me very...

Birds and the Bees and Me By Mary J Williams (c) What do I love Looking outside Watching the birds Eat food I provide So many birds What do I see There is the Tufted Titmouse And the Black-capped Chickadee The Cardinal flew in To take a drink Many do the same Bluebirds too, I think Yes, there he is The Bluebird just flew in Not for the food, but water Busy they have been It’s nesting time now No insecticides for me The birds need the protein From the bugs you see The Robin digs down Eating caterpillars or slugs Please don’t kill them Don’t kill the bugs If you spray your flowers What will the bees do Visit the flowers for pollen And die because of the brew We have to protect As much as we can The birds eat lots of bugs Insecticides I ban Robin and Cardinal Black-capped Chickadee Tufted Titmouse Bathing Bluebird waiting his turn for food The Bee

It Is Spring By Mary J Williams © Sitting at my computer Window open, the breeze blowing in The smell of Golden Currant I just have to grin Spring has arrived My Redbud is almost in bloom Supposed to get cold tonight Hope it’s not too soon The flowering crab in the back A few blooms I see Hope the cold the next few nights Doesn’t bother the tree Some of my daffodils Are already done But I have more blooming And that’s so much fun There are tulips now too Not very many I think the Chipmunk Had eaten plenty Used to have a row full Now it’s just one or two Beneath my bay window The bulbs they do chew Just like the seeds I planted in the pots The squirrels jumped in And they dug up lots I may have some survive Hopefully some lettuce for me If the squirrel quits digging We will just have to see! I still love the Spring It’s renewal, it’s birth That is the time We get to play in the dirt Golden Currant Redbud Tree flowers  Daffodils  Flowering Crab blooms

Gardening, New Shed and Mice

Image
Gardening has begun! I don't have a large garden, but my flower beds will be holding both flowers and veggies.  Just because I can, I cut the end off the large bunch of celery. That end went directly into a flower pot outside. Since I planted it we have had below freezing temperatures. I figured if it was going to make it would, if not, I would try again! It is still growing strong.  I also cut a potato that had sprouts. Put the cut pieces in a 1/2 whiskey barrel I used last year for flowers and peppers. I have two potato plants growing. Today was the day of cleaning up after my son and granddaughter built a shed for us.  I have decided I need a shelf to put the flower pots on. I can't wait to tell you what happened.  I was cleaning the top of the table I had put my flower pots on, for the winter. I covered them up with a large container with rope handles.  I lifted up the top and little mice went running everywhere. I laughed. There were several pots, one...

Just One Day By Mary J Williams © Yesterday, driving around I looked in the many yards I didn’t see one flower And that, sure was hard One day later Driving down the street Flowers were everywhere To everyone they did greet Just one day, just One day Now blooms are on a tree Just one day is what it was Before, I wasn’t patient, you see Today, as I was driving All the flowers in bloom Forsythia was too Guess it’s the sun, I assume It’s only the low fifties And the wind is blowing hard Yet those flowers all popped out In everybody’s yard Yes, even in my own Where there were none yesterday I have Hyacinth and Anemone And the Daffodils are out to play I feel better now Not so awfully blue I should have had more patience Just one more day would do!

I look forward to this time of year It’s my favorite you see Seeing all the birds And flowers blooming with glee I have heard the birds singing Preparing for the nests But haven’t any flowers Even Peepers are still at rest I want the Peepers singing One of the first signs of spring Maybe with their sounds The flowers it will bring I have a lot of bulbs Popping up their heads Now if only the sun Would warm up their beds I hope tomorrow is warmer And my daffodils will flower Then my scilla will be everywhere And they will have the power I’m feeling somewhat better I love the internet you see I’m listening to recordings Of Peepers sounds for me I just have to be patient The flowers will come in time Plus hearing all the birds It will ...
