It's Time To Think Of Other Things

Image
What Should I Do? By Mary J Williams © Lacy had to go outside So, I went out too The sun is shining brightly Inside there is lots to do I don’t care, I’m standing here Soaking up some sun All the weather lately Has really been no fun As I was looking out At the lay of the land An idea came to me I think I have a plan The deck is rotting out Been there over 30 years Time for a change, I think Maybe too much money, I fear I thought about a small, raised bed Line it with concrete blocks I wonder if I should use them Or maybe some pretty rocks Grabbed the pooper scooper Taking care of dog poo Not a job I like But something you have to do Talked to the neighbor a minute We are both hanging in there Hope his Mary heals well Jim too, I always ask in prayer Then into the house Folded some clothes Made some plant water These were the chores I chose No vacuuming for me No dusting either Rather pick up dog poo Gives me a breather Back in the house Coffee is on the menu Will have to feed the dogs

Heated Birdbath for Winter

Heated Birdbath You Need By Mary J Williams © Writing a poem About the birdbath outside Don’t know If I can Messing it up, I can’t abide A heated birdbath You really need In the winter weather They don’t just eat seed Watching out the window Just the other day A sparrow flew in Drinking, plus stayed to play It’s 18 degrees In the water to bathe I have seen other birds In there that day It startled me plenty A few years ago When the Starlings bathed 18 degrees that day also I have to remember In this frigid weather Birdbath water is above freezing And they have to clean their feathers The squirrel even visited All other sources are frozen My water is not My water is well chosen I had to clean the birdbath It was not at all clean When the waters that way The birds barely preen I scrubbed it all out I brought it inside Standing out in the cold Couldn’t do it, I tried It’s all cleaned out Fresh water is in At least 6 birds already here  Which really made me grin Snow-cold and Starlings in

A New Year 2024

I have already wrote several poems but none really fit in this blog. I watch the birds daily. They empty a bird feeder that I have on the deck, every day. It's not a real small feeder either.  I will see if I can find a picture of it. It's one that the squirrels can't invade. The openings close up when they try and get the seed.  However, the feeder is close to the 2x6 on the deck. I have seen them reach and put no weight on the feeder and grab a bite.  One squirrel hung from the top and reached in. If there is a will, they find a way! So, I saw a squirrel out there. Maybe the birds didn't eat it all! Who knows Today, the 12th of January, I was attempting to cook a supper and noticed a Mockingbird on the hot seed.  Looked so pretty as it was all fluffed out because of the bitter cold and wind.  It was around 16°F at that time. It's colder now. My battery in my camera died. Yes, I do use a camera, not just a phone!  I switched to a fully charged battery but the Mock
