Roly Poly, Pillbug, Sowbug, Woodlice All The Same


A Roly Poly Morning

Some call them sow bugs
Pill Bug is another name
Woodlice is another
Roly Poly is the same

A little bug-like character
That rolls up into a ball
That’s when they get scared
They are not insects at all!

They are more closely related
To lobster, crabs, and shrimp
Not to beetles and butterflies
Is that what you did think?

This morning after a little rain
I stepped outside my door
Looked around the yard
And the sidewalk had pepper galore

Wait that isn’t pepper
Those are pillbugs out there
Some are even mating
I’m watching and they don’t care

I have never seen this before
Roly Polies everywhere
I couldn’t resist and touched
Then flicked that ball into the air

The ball fell into the grass
Back to where he was from
So many need to go there too
I’m afraid to move and kill some

No idea why they were there
It had something to do with the rain
Coming out from under the mulch
I wonder if it will happen again.

I'm Worn Out!

It’s Nice Outside By Mary J Williams © I thought about the birds Stepped outside the door The sun was shining brightly Which I just adore! I knew I had washing So went down the stairs Transferred wash to the dryer I know you don’t care! I looked at the floor I need to sweep just a bit Went to get the broom My brain did a flip Feed the birds first Seeing as they have none They need some food Get that chore done The can that holds All the sunflower seed The bungee cord is broken A squirrel probably did the deed The cord held the lid down This has happened before Racoons and squirrels chew it Not going to get the lid off no more I finally found one in the basement That would fit like the old one Now that the birds are fed I found another thing to get done Blew the leaves out of the garage Out from the corner of the door Blew them across the driveway Where I will let them store Pick them up in spring After the birds dig through them Finding all the bugs, worms, and insects Among the rottin

Winter-Yard Gardens Birds Critters and ME

Winter-the Yard, Birds and Critters and Me by Mary J Williams It's sort of winter but the weather is mild You can be outside Which makes me smile Weeds were pulled and I planted a seed one was a tree If it grows, it will surprise me I have had fun watching the birds an argument between bluebirds and the Robins I've heard Chickadees flying in and the Titmouse too I grab the camera Then off they flew I have a flowerbox sits on the rail It's on the two by six so falling will fail It also can sit on a two by four but mine just has the space The birds walk through the tunnel and disappear without a trace One time, while filling the feeders One of the tunnels had a bird A sparrow was in there  He ran so fast, he was blurred I love watching them  they think the tunnels fun Maybe they get cool If there's a lot of sun. I have to wash the deck  to try and keep it clean with bird seed and poop Dog pee I mean When it's cold outside Or very early morn The dogs do their business
