The planting experiments - results so far!

Don't know if you remembered or if I posted here or on my Facebook page. I broke off a pepper.  Not the critters this time, but me!  I figured the pepper would grow out from the joint just above or below the break. Have done it before. I took the broken top and pushed it into the soil and watered it. I was having a hard time keeping the chipmunk from digging holes and burying his seed, so I put a cage around it. Silly me, the openings are so large (to keep squirrels out and large birds) a two ton chipmunk could fit through them.  I planted the pepper May 9th, it was broken off not too long after that. 

Then the other day the squirrel, I am assuming, used my tomato for a jungle gym. I probably let the dogs out and he took off. Or, then again, he might have just been eating it like I caught him doing today!  The tomato has sprouted from the side. The thing is now to see if it bears fruit. The story goes, no center stem, no fruit. 

The top was broken out and I found it. Took off the lower leaves and pushed it into the soil too! So far it's looking good? We shall see, as the chipmunk was in the barrel burying seed around it this morning.

I'm Worn Out!

It’s Nice Outside By Mary J Williams © I thought about the birds Stepped outside the door The sun was shining brightly Which I just adore! I knew I had washing So went down the stairs Transferred wash to the dryer I know you don’t care! I looked at the floor I need to sweep just a bit Went to get the broom My brain did a flip Feed the birds first Seeing as they have none They need some food Get that chore done The can that holds All the sunflower seed The bungee cord is broken A squirrel probably did the deed The cord held the lid down This has happened before Racoons and squirrels chew it Not going to get the lid off no more I finally found one in the basement That would fit like the old one Now that the birds are fed I found another thing to get done Blew the leaves out of the garage Out from the corner of the door Blew them across the driveway Where I will let them store Pick them up in spring After the birds dig through them Finding all the bugs, worms, and insects Among the rottin

Winter-Yard Gardens Birds Critters and ME

Winter-the Yard, Birds and Critters and Me by Mary J Williams It's sort of winter but the weather is mild You can be outside Which makes me smile Weeds were pulled and I planted a seed one was a tree If it grows, it will surprise me I have had fun watching the birds an argument between bluebirds and the Robins I've heard Chickadees flying in and the Titmouse too I grab the camera Then off they flew I have a flowerbox sits on the rail It's on the two by six so falling will fail It also can sit on a two by four but mine just has the space The birds walk through the tunnel and disappear without a trace One time, while filling the feeders One of the tunnels had a bird A sparrow was in there  He ran so fast, he was blurred I love watching them  they think the tunnels fun Maybe they get cool If there's a lot of sun. I have to wash the deck  to try and keep it clean with bird seed and poop Dog pee I mean When it's cold outside Or very early morn The dogs do their business
