It's still about the yard

Today Was Another Day

Today was another day
Digging all by hand
Pulling up all that sod
For a plan, oh, so, grand

But..I am a little old
79 to be exact
Sitting down and digging
Is hard and that’s a fact

Derrick has been helping
If he couldn’t, I would cry
It would be a year for me
I say with a great big sigh

Even with Derrick’s help
It’s still taking some time
It’s hard work digging up sod
Not to mention all the grime

Chris helped out today
Brought the truck over to me
Picked me up to go to Menard’s
Compost and mulch, at a little fee

Seven bags of one
Twenty bags of the other
Unloaded at the house
Hopefully won’t need another

Going to till that compost in
Then the mulch will go down
Still want a new path from the drive
How? I say with a frown

I found out there are five trees
I have that need planted
They are in pots by the drive
There for a long time, granted

Last year at Arbor Day
I swear I had their names
Looked today and had to laugh
Peppers was the claim

Oops, that’s not right
A Poblano you are not
May be a surprise 
To see what I had bought
What is left to do

I'm Worn Out!

It’s Nice Outside By Mary J Williams © I thought about the birds Stepped outside the door The sun was shining brightly Which I just adore! I knew I had washing So went down the stairs Transferred wash to the dryer I know you don’t care! I looked at the floor I need to sweep just a bit Went to get the broom My brain did a flip Feed the birds first Seeing as they have none They need some food Get that chore done The can that holds All the sunflower seed The bungee cord is broken A squirrel probably did the deed The cord held the lid down This has happened before Racoons and squirrels chew it Not going to get the lid off no more I finally found one in the basement That would fit like the old one Now that the birds are fed I found another thing to get done Blew the leaves out of the garage Out from the corner of the door Blew them across the driveway Where I will let them store Pick them up in spring After the birds dig through them Finding all the bugs, worms, and insects Among the rottin

Winter-the Yard, Birds and Critters and Me by Mary J Williams It's sort of winter but the weather is mild You can be outside Which makes me smile Weeds were pulled and I planted a seed one was a tree If it grows, it will surprise me I have had fun watching the birds an argument between bluebirds and the Robins I've heard Chickadees flying in and the Titmouse too I grab the camera Then off they flew I have a flowerbox sits on the rail It's on the two by six so falling will fail It also can sit on a two by four but mine just has the space The birds walk through the tunnel and disappear without a trace One time, while filling the feeders One of the tunnels had a bird A sparrow was in there  He ran so fast, he was blurred I love watching them  they think the tunnels fun Maybe they get cool If there's a lot of sun. I have to wash the deck  to try and keep it clean with bird seed and poop Dog pee I mean When it's cold outside Or very early morn The dogs do their business
